Get A Lot More Satisfied with A Faster Windows OS
Old personal computers with earlier Windows programs are probably slower. But, this does not mean that you should go on and verify the new PC models in your area.
While not all people would agree, old PC programs are less complicated and very easy to utilize. Its convenience is because of its simplicity. It is normal for old personal computers to be a little bit slow. But hey, if your PC takes 15 minute booting up and another 10 minutes to load even a basic Microsoft Office program then something is definitely wrong. Do the listed speed up Windows guidelines:
> Delete any unused programs.
Your PC may be keeping applications that havent been used for years. Check the programs installed by checking add/remove program menu. Delete the software you have not used for some time. This will make your PC faster.
> Update drivers.
Hardware drivers eat up little space but they have a say on the speed of your Windows accessories. Many improvement have been done on hardware over time. Check Online and search for new information about them. This information never fails to speed up Windows 2000 and ME.
> Remove the Starting Windows message.
Windows 95 and 98 has this specific starting windows message that suspends PC booting. Take away element to speed up Windows 98. Go to C:\ and search for Msdos.sys, right click on it and deselect the read-only option. Open the file in Notepad, access over to text Options inside the file. Add: Add BootDelay-0. You may {choose to make your booting|want to change your PC booting faster by setting add Logo=0 to remove the Windows logo throughout start-up.
> Optimize start menu.
Speed up Windows by having instant access to your start menu. Click on Start and access Run. Type Regedit inside the bar and click Enter. Access the Registry editor folder named HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. If you see a MenuShowDelay, double click it and alter the value of data field to 0. This will load Start program without any delay at all.
> Do not Turn On active desktop.
For Windows 98, access the Display Properties settings and access Web tab. Unchoose the option for View my Active Desktop as a Web Page. This easy step will definitely speed up your Windows 98. computer troubleshooting
Restore Active Desktop (IE7)
Answer:hi,
I am running on Windows XP Pro SP2 and IE7 with all available updates from windows update.
I keep on getting the "Restore Active Desktop" white screen and when I click restore I get a script error referring to a file desktop.htt which I could never find.
Whether I choose "Yes" to continue running the script or "No" nothing happens. Clicking "Yes" used to repair the problem under IE6.
The only possible solution that I found is to do the following:
1.. uninstall IE7
2.. restart
3.. now that IE6 is running, restore active desktop
4.. restart
5.. install IE7
6.. restart
7.. install IE7 updates
8.. restart
9.. hope and pray that it works… (4 out of 5 times) it works. If not go to Step 1 above.
This process is annoying and time consuming, particularly that I would have to do this quite often ranging from 2-3 times a day to once a week.
A few weeks ago I found a solution here by which the value of a certain registry key will have to be changed to Decimal Zero.
That did not fix my problem.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Saleem
Actually I am not displaying web content on my desktop.
Right clicking on my desktop | Properties | Customize Desktop | Web tab
I have only one item there "My Current Home Page" and it is unclicked.
There is no "Show Web Content on My Active Desktop" box.
All I have is 4 buttons "New", "Delete" (which cannot be used for "My Current Home Page"), "Properties", "Synchronize" and 1 box "Lock desktop items".
Thank you,
Saleem

Answer:Re: Restore Active Desktop (IE7)
Answer:You may have yet another horked install of IE7. I suggest reading the
following link…
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
….and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi’s tips, and using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source,
not Automatic/Windows Update.

Answer:Hi,
Have you read the IE7 Release Notes regarding Active Desktop(last item on
the page)?

"The ability to restore Active Desktop if software or the operating system
stops responding is no longer supported."
